Wednesday night ended up being a late night working on some upcoming goodies and my chamomile tea got me thinking…

When is the last time you looked in the mirror? I mean really looked at yourself and knew, loved, and was proud of the beautiful person staring back at you?

I never used to do this… but I do now, and I’ll tell you why and how.

There are many people, books, groups, memberships, websites, and other resources that will be a part of your lifestyle journey and personal transformation.

I didn’t have a specific nutrition coach for my transformation that started back in 2013. I wish I did but honestly, I didn’t even really know they existed [not to mention Facebook groups or programs for this lifestyle, either]! But, I did have some other tools and key influential pieces in my journey… both at the beginning, during, and still to this day. To name a couple:

Dr. Joel Fuhrman and his books [Eat to Live, pictured], documentaries, website, and recipes helped me immensely. So thankful.

IMG_20160430_130320Additionally, in particular, my brother [Trevor], personal trainer [Keith], best friend [Kristi], and husband [Zane] all believed in me from the moment I declared my lifestyle change. These amazing people helped encourage me to keep going because they knew I deserved better than I was giving myself.

It is so important to find those friends and family members that will help support you, build you up, and never give up on you. Support is key, so please find some! Gather with like-minded people. Hire a coach. Join a program. Whatever would help you  move forward and succeed with more ease! It sucks to do this completely alone; having a solid support system is super beneficial to success.

In addition, there’s one more thing that I want you to remember here… It’s super important:


“Recognize that the other person is you.”


Yes, my brother pointed me in the right direction to watch a PBS special that changed my life. My trainer pushed me to run hills with him in the pouring rain when I tried to get out of it. My best friend sent me encouraging texts from thousands of miles away. My husband was supportive in helping me get all of the junk food out of the house.

True, I would not be the woman, coach, and person I am today without these vital pieces!

Free to be meBut what I did with these pieces was the real kicker. I took all of these things and put them to work. I busted my ass. I studied the whole food, plant-based lifestyle like a madwoman. I gathered advice, success stories, inspiration, and absorbed all of this new-to-me information. I took in all those “Get it, girl!” texts from my bestie and I ran those hills in the pouring rain with everything in me. I didn’t stop.

I resisted temptations in the form of alcohol, junk food, drive thru snacks, grocery store favorites, and unhealthful “foods” at social events.


I didn’t give up… I didn’t give up on me.


How? Well, simply put… I embraced the changes and the growth. I would stop at nothing to remain positive and persistent. I was finally ready to be me.

  • I said no to “old Bethany’s” voice in my head asking if I was gonna fail again, just like I always had in the past.
  • I said no to toxic relationships that told me I was never going to be good enough for them.
  • I said no to main-stream media trying to shove unhealthful foods down my throat with every chance they got.
  • I said no to society telling me who I should look like, how I should act, and what/who I should be.

Say yes to yourself. You are enoughI screamed no to all of the negativity that had weighed me down for over 20 years and I welcomed a big HELL YES to myself.


I was my biggest cheerleader.


And that’s truly a big part of how and why I succeeded. I was mentally ready. I wasn’t just trying, I was doing. That’s what was different this time around… I believed in myself for the first time in my life. This allowed me to win… and keep on winning every single day.

  • Weight loss [80+ pounds]
  • Leaner body mass [from a size 20-ish to a 6/8]
  • Mental clarity
  • More positivity
  • Stronger relationships
  • Increased energy
  • Reached a new level of joy with life

These are just a few of the things that I experienced when I told myself that I was worth it. That I deserved true happiness. That I was enough. And in all this… I learned to really love myself.

So let’s do this! Toss any excuses or fears holding you back from changing your lifestyle and nutrition. When you’re ready, I am here. But you must always remember to…
